Roshni Chadda, an aspiring singer, is the only child of Sharda Chadda. Her father, Prakash Chadda, left before she was born under unclear circumstances, and she grew up unaware of his whereabouts. When her mother is diagnosed with a terminal illness, she sends Roshni to Mumbai with a family friend, hoping she will become independent.
In Mumbai, Roshni meets Rahul Malhotra, who is impressed by her voice and helps launch her music career. As she rises to fame, they develop a romantic relationship. Meanwhile, Roshni catches the attention of Jagannath “Jaggu,” a petty thief and devoted admirer whose romantic feelings for her are not reciprocated.
Before her death, Sharda confesses that Prakash had been falsely accused of a crime at the national level and had left due to pressure from Roshni's grandmother, who refused to accept him. She urges Roshni to find her father.
While on a trip to Hong Kong with Rahul to search for Prakash, Roshni is arrested for cocaine trafficking. Rahul vanishes without explanation. Roshni is quickly tried and sentenced to death. In prison, she faces harsh conditions and is abused by guards. Jaggu arrives in Hong Kong to support her and hires a lawyer to pursue her case.
An escape plan is initiated after tensions escalate. During a scuffle with the guards, one is killed in self-defense by Roshni, while Jaggu kills the prison warden. They successfully flee and return to India.
At the airport, Roshni learns that Prakash is indeed her father and that he had been wrongfully accused of treason years ago. Later, Roshni confronts Rahul, who admits to being involved in drug trafficking and framing her. She slaps him and has him arrested. In the end, Roshni reunites with her father and marries Jaggu with his blessings.
